Encaustics Demonstration

Paper artist, Michelle Belto, will demonstrate encaustics, the process of painting with molten beeswax..   Michelle Belto, founder of the San Antonio chapter of Texas/WAX, states that “encaustic  is the most sensual art medium in existence because the results that one can achieve using a process of molten beeswax, colored pigments and resin are like no other.  Artwork appears to glow, having both depth and translucency.”  Although encaustic technique dates back to the 5th century BC, it has only recently come back into the mainstream art market.  Mixed media artists, painters and printmakers love this process because of the high degree of flexibility and the textural quality that can be achieved.  Belto states, “encaustic art just begs to be touched.”
