The Olaju Art Group

In conjunction with our Contemporary Art Month Series, The Olaju Art Group is honored to host internationally recognized textile artist/musician, Tunde Odunlade. His contribution to CAM provides a look into fabric art made by techniques developed in West Africa with complimentary live music.

The works presented are known as ‘Batik’, a traditional technique of wax dyeing applied to various cloths as a medium. Odunlade produces, exhibits and teaches methods of textile art on an international level with the Smithsonian Museum and other established institutions.

On this evening, Tunde will be drumming and storytelling amidst Yoruba chants to fully engage his audience with Nigerian culture. Also, captivating fabrics ranging in size from medium to extra-large will be on display for sale and appreciation.
