"Following the North Star"

Cathy Savage exhibits her multi-process original prints at StoneMetal Press for Contemporary Art Month. The title of the exhibition, Changing States, refers not only to "state proofs," the physical changes that occur to a plate during the course of establishing a print, but to the exploration of how the subject might be altered in a conceptual and visual process. The subject of the print becomes the central element for alteration and becomes a new and engaging composition. Traditional printing techniques are only the starting point in the evolution of the subject, as the alteration changes the subject and how it is perceived.
