Get ready because dinosaurs are ‘roar-turning’ to the Witte! Dinosaurs Unearthed is making its Texas debut March 6 through September 6 in the Witte’s Kathleen and Curtis Gunn Gallery. Step back in time to 65 million years ago when dinosaurs roamed the earth, and discover the most fascinating creatures that ever lived. Featuring the world’s largest and most advanced animatronic dinosaurs, full skeletons and fossils, Dinosaurs Unearthed also presents exciting information on new discoveries. Walk among life-sized dinosaurs, including Tyrannosaurus Rex, Triceratops and Stegosaurus and unravel the mystery of the unknown. Then, head to the paleontological dig to unearth the fossils that remained long after the dinosaurs did not.
As exciting new discoveries have been uncovered in recent years, Dinosaurs Unearthed is the first exhibition in the world to feature life-sized feather-covered dinosaur models. The exhibition highlights the latest thinking in paleontology, including evidence suggesting some dinosaurs are the ancestors of modern day birds rather than modern reptiles. Some paleontologists think that dinosaurs such as the Tyrannosaurus Rex once began their lives covered with hair-like feathers. In addition to life-sized dinosaur skeletons, fossil specimens and interactive activities, Dinosaurs Unearthed boasts state-of-the-art articulated, animatronic dinosaurs, some of which can be operated and controlled by the visitor. Created with electronics instead of hydraulics, these models capture some of the most life-like motions ever created. There is a $3 surcharge in addition to museum general admission for Dinosaurs Unearthed.
