Joan Grona Gallery presents a new series of paintings by J. Derrick Durham entitled Idle Down!..Hang Around: Peanut Tank Paintings that focus on the relationship between transit and memory through the nexus of biker culture. The term "hang around" refers to bikers who spend time, by invitation, hanging around motor cycle clubs. During the past year (2010) the artist spent time hanging around and riding with members of regional MC's, crisscrossing the state of Texas, capturing through photography the lifestyles and stories of the various bikers and events encountered. These photographs served as a basis for this series of colorful abstract and semi-abstract hard-edge paintings. J. Derrick Durham is an artist based out of San Marcos, TX. He has an MFA in painting from UTSA and currently teaches painting and foundation design courses at Texas State University-San Marcos.
