San Antonio, Texas – An official exhibition during 2012’s Contemporary Art Month (CAM) in San Antonio, BLUESTOCKINGS, which features the diverse work of 12 female artists in the Alamo City, will have its opening reception on Saturday, March 17 at 6 p.m. at Studio One Zero Three (721 S. Presa). The exhibit will run through April 14.
The title of the exhibit is taken from the English term bluestocking, a word used to describe the literary and intellectual women that gathered in 18th century salons in England.
Artists featured in the exhibit include Kim Bishop, Judith Cottrell, Ana Fernandez, Joan Frederick, Adriana Garcia, Megan Harrison, Mari Hernandez, Wendi Kimura, Clare Little, Anabel Toribio Martinez, Destiny Mata, Jung-hee Mun, Daniela Riojas, Amber Rodriguez and Joanna Zamarron. The exhibit is organized and curated by Rigoberto Luna. Entertainment during the opening reception will be provided by Los Nahuatlatos, DJ's Agosto Cuellar and Jason "PopGuy" Ibarra and reading by three-time San Antonio Grand Slam Poetry champion Anthony M. Flores.
Along with featuring the work of these 12 talented artists, the event will also serve as a benefit for Patty Lujan, owner of Studio One Zero Three, and her children who recently lost her father Moses Lujan. Patty will be taking an indefinite leave of absence from the studio while she tends to her personal and family matters. Donations can be made the night of the event and a Paypal account is currently being set up for online giving.
