Rubin discusses the origins and evolution of one of the first significant stylistic trends of the 21st Century. Beginning with Op Art of the 1960s, artists introduced extreme color and kaleidoscopic space into their aesthetic vocabularies. With additional impetus from the visual culture of the psychedelic era, this development continued sporadically through the 1990s, but has been widely embraced in the new millennium. The lecture explores the work of more than 75 artists, including Victor Vasarely, Yayoi Kusama, Andy Warhol, George Cisneros, Peter Halley, Alex Grey, Fred Tomaselli, and many others.
