Thanks to all who came out to support Contemporary Art Month at our CAM closing party and fundraiser at Chris Park.  We had a great time, as usual.  We especially want to give a shout out to:

  • The Linda Pace foundation and Chris Park for providing the venue and personnel
  • Blue Moon for providing Libations
  • Our MC, Asia Ciaravino from the Playhouse San Antonio
  • All the San Antonio Artists, Galleries, and Institutions that participated in CAM
  • All the San Antonioans that looked at and supported contemporary art in San Antonio.

As always, we look to the future and hope to do bigger and better things.  Stay tuned throughout the year for more CAM related occurrences.

In case you weren't aware, our MC for the CAM closing party, Asia Ciaravino, is the President and CEO of the Playhouse San Antonio and is the 2014 recipient of the San Antonio Chamber of Commerce Promise Award.  On top of that, Asia is the host for KLRN's weekly show about the arts and culture scene in San Antonio, Arts.

CAM closing Party, Yeah!!!

You are cordially invited to celebrate the end of Contemporary Art Month 2014.  There will be food, and drink, and music, and dancing, and awards, and goodness.  Come Join us.

CAM Perennial Exhibition 2014. Untitled (Public Display)

Contemporary Art Month, CAM presents:  Untitled (Public Display) , the 2014 CAM Perennial Exhibition,March 21- May 10, 2014.

Untitled(Public Display), is an exhibition in progress. The gallery space of the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center will evolve as artists Christie Blizard and Mark Menjivar collaborate with each other, the surrounding community and gallery visitors. Works will be added, taken out of the space, and the process documented on a hand drawn map of the community that will serve as a focal point of the exhibition. The crux of the exhibition is to offer the surrounding community and audience the opportunity to play an active role throughout the duration of the exhibition. It is a work in progress where everyone is invited to participate. This project is as reliant upon its audience as it is on the artists participating.

Opening reception: March 21, 2014, 6-9 p.m.CAM Perennial 2014 Sample Image

Four Leaf Clover Hunting Trip: Saturday, April 12, 12 – 2 p.m. 

Together with Mark Menjivar, members of the community will walk throughout the neighborhood to look for four leaf clovers. Together with a brief talk prior to the hunt, the duration of the trip will last around 1.5 hours, but can vary according to the number of participants. The path taken will be documented on the large Map in the gallery space.

 

The Walk Project: Saturday, May 3, 12- 2 p.m.

Christie Blizard will provide spray paint and canvases for an approximately 1-2 mile trek for about 10 participants. The trek will take participants throughout the community, and the paths will then be documented on the map inside of the gallery space. The duration of the program will take approximately two hours and Christie will give a short gallery talk prior to the event.

 

Closing talk and Potluck: Saturday, May 10, 6 – 8 p.m.

Christie Blizard and Mark Menjivar, as well as curator Leslie Moody Castro will host a community potluck meal in the gallery space as well as an informal talk about the outcome of the project.
