The Next official CAM event in the 2014 line-up, CAMx (Mexico City)

Mexico City!  Yes, that's right.  CAM is going international with an art and artist exchange between San Antonio's Three Walls Gallery and Mexico City's Central Cultural Border.

Crossing the Line is a collaboration between San Antonio-based artist Michele Monseau and Mexico City-based curator Barbara Perea. Framed as a creative multidisciplinary exchange between cities, Monseau and Perea plan to mount two exhibitions. The first, entitled La Tensión Extendida, will take place in San Antonio during March, 2014 for the annual exchange initiative CAMx. Curated by Perea, this exhibition will consist of transforming Stacey Hill’s warehouse space in Southtown into a pop-up space for Monseau’s gallery Three Walls.  Mexico City artist Manuel Rocha Iturbide will install an interactive, site-specific sound installation at Three Walls which will essentially turn the space into a musical instrument that can be played by the audience.

Exhibition runs March 14-31,

opening reception, March 14, 7-10pm

1119 S. St. Mary’s SA, TX 78210

The second exhibition, curated by Monseau, will be held at Centro Cultural Border in Mexico City in May, 2014.  Five Texas artists  (Joey Fauerso, Beto Gonzales, Leigh Anne Lester, Cruz Ortiz, and Ann Wood) will “contaminate” and “hybridize” the Border gallery with their works and also “invade” the outdoor urban space surrounding Border through a performance/social sculpture.

Crossing the Line focuses on how nature and culture cross-pollinate to ensure survival and evolution, and the positive and negative repercussions of the human race tinkering with and combining natural systems through genetic modification. Flora, fauna, food, musical vernacular, and language mash-ups figure prominently in the images and actions of this exchange.

This project is supported by grants from the Idea Fund (a grant funded by the Warhol Foundation) and CAM.

Be on the look out for this CAM coolness!!!

Don't be without one of these sweet CAM stickers designed by Andy and Yvette Benavidas, 'cause then you'll look like you don't support CAM...or art...or community...or San Antonio.  It'll just be downright bad.
