Rrose Amarillo Studios

Rrose Amarillo Studios was opened in the late eighties by San Antonio artist Ken Little. The name refers to the fact that Little was born and raised in Amarillo Texas. It also makes reference to Emily Morgan, the "Yellow Rose of Texas". Emily was a spy who passed information about the Mexican General Santa Anna's movements to Sam Houston and allowed him to defeat the General and make Texas a republic. And finally it refers to Rrose Selavy, the femine alter ego of Marcel Duchamp in the early part of the last century.

For a numer of years the buiding housed Rrose Amarillo Exhibition Space and studios for a number of San Antonio artists. Some of the artists who have had studios in the building include Riley Robinson, Jesse Amado, Connie Lowe, Dennis Olsen, Meredith Dean, Victoria Suescum, Elizabeth McGrath, Jayne Lawrence, Alex Lopez, Karen Mahaffy, Dario Robleto, Jennifer Wallace, Pony Allen, Veronica Fernandez, and others.

This will be the last Open Studio with current occupants of Rrose Amarillo: Ken Little, Cathy Cunningham Little, Dennis Olsen, Meredith Dean, and Jesse Amado.
